Our Services Include:WATOTO WATER RUN 2011 - $22,000 RAISED!
February 4th marked The Third Annual Watoto 10K Road Races, hosted by Erace Poverty in Ilula, Kenya and Seattle, Washington! This year’s race channeled the energy of nearly 100 Kenyan runners, and 100 Seattle runners, into a clean water well for the children’s home and training center operated by Empowering Lives International (ELI). This year's race in Kenya drew several dozen spectators, including two Kenyan Olympic medalist endurance runners.
In addition to creating free local access to safe drinking water, the well will irrigate family gardens and help propagate tree seedlings sold to communities in areas of Kenya experiencing severe deforestation. In addition, the well will save up to $3,000 per year in food costs and generate up to $12,500 per year from seedling revenue. This increased revenue for the children’s home and school will move the people of ELI Kenya a big step closer toward a self-sustainable community.
